FLI Water are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the team at our offices in Bedford.

This role is to support the Technical, Project Delivery and Sales teams in the development and delivery of technical solutions from business development, through tendering and scheme development to full delivery of successful projects, from concept design through to detailed fabrication drawings.  

The key responsibilities of the role are to:

• Create 3D Models in SolidWorks, to include:

o Concept models for sales and business development

o Plant layouts, incorporating specialist equipment (in house / external), with interconnection pipework, access platforms etc.

o Development of full detailed models to output components fabrication drawings, component part assemblies and general arrangement all in a range of formats – DXF, 2D CAD etc.

o Provide detailed information on generated drawings relating to fabrication and assembly requirements and any associated industry standards with Bill Of Material(BOM)

o Producing ‘as built’ drawings upon completion of project

• Produce process & instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) in 2D environment

• Interface developed models within client BIM systems

• Work closely with Technical team to deliver outputs for the Sales and Project Delivery Teams

• Support development of the mechanical design function and technical department, through;

o Enhancement of standard engineering procedures, documents and associated templates.

o Development of internal design tools and documentation.

o Training and mentoring of junior staff.

In terms of what we are looking for, we need the successful candidate to have:

• Proven mechanical engineering background at either degree or HND/HNC qualification level with more than 5 year’s experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer, preferably in the water and wastewater industry.  

• Excellent communication skills, with good technical and inter-personal skills, and able to deliver as part of a team to produce quality results. 

• The ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team under tight deadlines.

• The ability to work on bespoke components.

• Knowledge and experience in taking designs from concept right through to fabrication.
